[00:00:04] Speaker A: Welcome to the Four Wards podcast. [00:00:07] Speaker B: Hey, what's up? It's Eric Bra, voice of Draven, Jerks and Velcas. And you're listening to the Four Wards podcast. Here to help you move forward in league. Hello and welcome to episode 477 of the Four Wards podcast. I'm your host as usual. I'm Jack Sohman and I've got with me three other wards to help you move forward in League of Legends. We've got back from sickness, Mike of many names. [00:00:53] Speaker C: I'm alive. I tried to make it last week but they wouldn't let me. [00:00:59] Speaker B: I didn't want to do that much editing. Listeners, you're welcome. [00:01:04] Speaker C: It was bad. [00:01:05] Speaker B: We've also got. It was bad. We've also got Pillow pat. [00:01:09] Speaker A: Hello. I'm still bald. [00:01:12] Speaker B: Yes. Yes you are. And then listeners, you've heard her name quite a few times on this show. We are happy to introduce a new member of the four Words podcast, Codex Ninja is joining us. [00:01:24] Speaker D: Hi everybody. Oh, hello. [00:01:33] Speaker C: Yep, there it is. [00:01:34] Speaker D: Dang. Okay. Hello everybody. I don't know why my mic doesn't like me today, but I'm here. [00:01:43] Speaker B: So yeah, Codex Ninja will be joining us to give us a little bit more consistent of an ad carry voice instead of Free Shooter who's stuck at work half the time and can't always join us and see the secret. Give us a little bit more newer player perspective because you are by far the newest of any of us at this game. [00:02:05] Speaker D: I don't, I don't know if I. Well, by far, I think so. [00:02:11] Speaker C: When. When did you start playing? [00:02:15] Speaker D: No, no, I played for 12 years. Yo. [00:02:17] Speaker C: Yeah, that's, that's, that sounds pretty by far to me. [00:02:21] Speaker B: I don't, I don't know how you compare to Free Shooter. He's not here. Or pillow. [00:02:25] Speaker D: Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. 12 years is a long time. Like some of my friends have only started playing in the last three years, so I, I consider them new players. [00:02:34] Speaker B: We still have you beat by like minimum two years for everyone else here. [00:02:39] Speaker D: That's true. [00:02:42] Speaker A: But ah, age is just the number when it comes to playing league. [00:02:47] Speaker C: It really is. [00:02:48] Speaker B: We're hoping it will getting more voices will help us make sure we don't run into two person episodes. [00:02:55] Speaker D: Yeah, exactly. That's what I'm here for. [00:02:58] Speaker B: It's boring when it's just two people. It's hard to have entertaining banter when it's just the two of you. [00:03:03] Speaker C: It also really helps open perspective. [00:03:07] Speaker B: Yes. All right, so Listeners, if you want to come talk to the hosts, join the Discord. We have a link in the episode description. Come join the Discord. You'll get notifications in the announcement channel whenever the episodes go live. You can chat with us about your games, vent about bad games that happen. Ask Questions. We have a whole channel dedicated to sending questions for the podcast. It's a good time. Come join the Discord. We look forward to seeing you there. Some of us do stream on Twitch. I can be found at Twitch TV jacksoman, where I have not been consistent lately, but hopefully more soon. There will at least be a Super Metroid stream on Wednesday. Mike can be found at Twitch TV mikeofmanynames, where hopefully he'll be streaming again soon now that he's getting better from his illness. Hopefully Pillow can be found at Twitch TV Pillowpet have you been streaming anything? [00:04:11] Speaker A: No, not this week. I've been. I've had baby aggro all week. Haven't had a chance. [00:04:18] Speaker B: Aww, fair enough. Well, hopefully we'll see you on streams soon. Listeners, we got a shout out to 2 of the people here, Codex Ninja and Pillow Bat. And then also Robogon for supporting the podcast on the Patreon at the Shoutout tier. Thank you so much for doing so. We could not keep this show going without you guys. All right, listeners, it's time for Disappointed Dad Jax again, because not a single one of you wrote in a question in the past week. As a matter of fact, the last listener question we got in our email inbox was three weeks ago. Y'all are slacking. So listeners, I need y'all to write in the Fourwards podcastmail.com and ask us shit so we can answer your questions on the show. I don't care if you think it's a stupid question. If you want to know the answer, ask it. We're not going to make fun of you. We're going to teach you. That's what the show's here for. You can also drop questions in the Question and Answer channel. In the Discord. If you join the Discord again link is in the episode description. Either one is fine. Alright, before we get into covering Patch 25.08, Codex, the listeners have been hearing your name for months, but they don't know you unless they're one of the couple of other listeners who have played games with you. And we've played normal games in the Discord, which is awesome. So tell the listeners a bit about yourself. Who are you? [00:06:24] Speaker D: Yeah, so, yeah, I'm Codex. I am like a previous Bard. One trick pony. I played bard exclusively from 2015 to 2018. So, yeah, I love my memes. I love my map presence. I play League of Legends with another group other than these fine, you know, esteemed people here. And they needed carry. So Aphelios had just released. So I played Aphelios for two years, playing nothing else but Aphelios. And that is a champion that you can dedicate two years to and still not completely understand. [00:07:04] Speaker C: 200 years. [00:07:05] Speaker D: 200 years, in fact. And, you know, these days, I'm a carry main. It's a good time. It basically is barred. Only you do more damage. So, yeah, so it's been a good time. And I just. I kind of felt like this, this podcast needed the true soul of a carrier, which is consistent uptick damage. So, like, yeah, that's what I'm here for. Provide consistent uptick damage. [00:07:39] Speaker B: Fair enough. All right, so patch 25.08. This is a surprisingly large patch considering this is the last patch before we get a season shift patch next time around. There's a lot to talk about. And since she's the new person, I'm gonna make Codex kick us off Codex. Which of these champions do you want to talk about the change of? [00:08:07] Speaker D: Well, I think I'm going to talk about the nothing change first. And that is why we're going to direct our attention to the Zeri Buff, which is that Zeri is getting 5% total ad on her ultimate Chain Lightning damage. I don't. I don't think this is going to change anything. Like, she's going to be slightly more damaging after she ults. And that's it. This is a nothing buff of like, hey, player in pro play, she's cool. [00:08:47] Speaker B: More importantly, I think this does literally nothing to her single target. It's a pure teamfight. Aoe Buff. [00:08:52] Speaker D: Yep. [00:08:54] Speaker B: I also want to point out, because I think it's hilarious, the patch notes usually list the champions in alphabetical order, but they're listed as Xerath, Zeri, Yone, Yorick, Zoe Yumi. [00:09:08] Speaker D: I didn't. [00:09:09] Speaker B: What the fuck? [00:09:10] Speaker C: Someone forgot that Zeri spelled with a. [00:09:12] Speaker D: Z. Oh yes, Zeri. Zeri is a. Well, okay, well. [00:09:17] Speaker B: And then they also put Zoe above Yumi. [00:09:20] Speaker C: Yeah. To be fair, everyone should be able to hear. [00:09:24] Speaker D: Oh dear. That. Yeah, there was some sort of spell correct issue there. [00:09:31] Speaker B: My guess is that these patch notes were originally written in a different language and then translated and that that was the alphabetical order in that language. That's my best guess. [00:09:42] Speaker A: Last minute additions. [00:09:43] Speaker D: Last minute. [00:09:44] Speaker B: That's probably actually the answer. But my theory is funnier. I just thought it was amusing. Speaking of amusing, Pillow, you have Gwen on your list and you have a note on Gwen. You want to explain why you are saying Hallelujah to these Gwen changes. [00:10:09] Speaker A: So mainly it's just the level 1E that I'm happy about and it doesn't seem like much, but her E, her little dash gives her on hit damage for X amount of seconds. They nerfed her level one which is all she's going to have for the first few levels to from 12 to 8. And that's a significant bit of damage to take off of her at that early in the game for her. And I'm happy about that because she's very oppressive when she just, just jumps on you and all of a sudden like you're like, oh, okay, I can't get away from her. And now I'm at half health and all I did was take a level 2 trade. [00:10:55] Speaker B: Important to note because this is on hit. That's basically every single auto attack in the early game loses four damage. And this is her second max and it does not recoup back to where it used to be until she maxes it. [00:11:09] Speaker A: Yeah. So it does go from it was 12 to 20 scaling. Now it's 8 to 20 scaling with 3 lost in the second rank, 2 lost in the third rank, 1 in the fourth rank and then it's even at 20 in the last rank. AP scaling is unchanged. So yeah, the hallelujah is just like it's a huge cut off of that first point and it's, it's, it's going to be noticeable. I feel like, I mean, I haven't played against her. I'd like to see what it, what it does to her win rate. [00:11:44] Speaker B: Yeah, I don't know. I was also thinking it's also going to significantly neuter her early clear. [00:11:50] Speaker C: Oh yeah. Her jungle is going to be mained. [00:11:53] Speaker B: Because she has, she has been an off roll jungler for several patches and I think this kneecaps her because she just clears too slow. [00:12:01] Speaker C: Now this will knock probably five to 10 seconds off at least, and it'll make her significantly less healthy. [00:12:10] Speaker B: Yeah. Alright. Well, hallelujah. Gwen took a much deserved nerf. I'm gonna talk about a buff. That is a hallelujah. Ahri got some changes. They nerfed her armor gross. Which is fine. They buffed her W's damage, it gained 10% AP ratio and they did nerf the base damage on it, knocking 25 base damage. That means you need 250ap to break even above 200ap. 250ap. This is a buff to the damage. They also nerfed the cooldown on it by a full second at all ranks. Her W is the little three flames that just auto target people. And they buffed the AP ratio on her charm by another 10%. That ability now has an 85% AP ratio. Her charm fucking hurts now. That sounds like a lot of nerfs. Why am I excited about this? Why is this a hallelujah to me? Because Ahri's popular build has been Rod of Ages plus Liandry's. Because in pro play where there's a lot less violence going, a sustain bruisery sort of Ahri build makes a lot of sense. And she still has all the pick power because they follow up on charm and pro play. It's been bad in solo queue already prior to this nerf. This nerf is specifically targeted at saying stop building Rod of Ages liandries. Stop, go back to the malignant and then build AP after that. Thank fuck. [00:13:59] Speaker D: So the only question I have because I don't, I don't, I don't go. [00:14:03] Speaker C: No, no, no. [00:14:04] Speaker D: Mid lane. But like wouldn't you want to go Rod of Ages with the armor growth nerf? [00:14:11] Speaker C: No. [00:14:12] Speaker B: No. So the lower your armor is, the less value you get out of just building a bunch of health. Because health and resistance stats, armor or Mr. Have a multiplicative effect with each other. So because her armor growth is down, the relative value of health is down and she's not building a bunch of resistance stats. So it just makes the value of the health on Rod of Ages less than it was before. [00:14:38] Speaker C: It's a small enough nerf to the armor growth that it's not something that like you can't play her into assassin matchups. Like the, the standard matchup that Ari was still good at was versus Zed. And she's still going to be good versus Zed because you know exactly where he's coming out Yep. [00:14:57] Speaker B: But yeah, and because it's growth, it shouldn't have a meaningful impact on her early landing phase. [00:15:05] Speaker C: And because of all the ratio, one. [00:15:08] Speaker B: Less AD carry auto. [00:15:09] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:15:09] Speaker B: To kill her. [00:15:10] Speaker C: And the ratio changes mean you're wanting to get more into the AP side of things, pushing her away from Liandry's, which is a lot more set into scaling. [00:15:20] Speaker B: Yep, I'm happy about it. She's supposed to be a fucking hybrid control mage assassin. This pushes her back in the direction that she's supposed to be. All right, Mike, you have a whole bunch of mages. Pick one to talk about. [00:15:38] Speaker C: So since we're right next to it, I'm gonna scroll down ever so slightly and going to talk very briefly about Annie getting some buffs. Because this is. This is a smart way to buff Annie. And this is one of those ways that it looks like they're trying to explicitly start shoving her back into the mid lane a little bit. And these are good ways of doing that. So to begin with, her Q, her Mainstay getting the 5% AP bonus ratio. Brilliant. AP ratios are the great way to bring things back into mid lane. Her W is getting a 1% or a 1 second cooldown buff. So it's going from 8 to 7. Great. And since this is normally your second max, it's getting a damage base damage buff at late level. So it starts at 70, it's the same as before, but now it ends at 270 as opposed to 250. So this is significantly better for mid mages because they're going to be putting this open earlier. It's going to be doing more worse damage for them. And this is where the big changes are. And they're changing how her alt is going to interact. So they're nerfing the aura from Tibbers doing significantly less damage on that aura. He's doing significantly less auto attack damage. Both base and EP ratios are very nerfed for those. The aura is more than half damage nerf and the ad, the attack damage ratio is almost half. So, like it, They're. They're nerfing Tibbers because Tibbers was pretty much the oh no, you killed Annie and now Tibbers beats you up and you die. But what they've done is they've added in bonus percent magic pen, which really scales with raw ap. [00:17:44] Speaker B: Yup. [00:17:46] Speaker C: So mid Annie is back. [00:17:49] Speaker B: That's where the key is. Because Annie's build for the last several patches has been a Rylai's to make it so you Just have a hard time escaping Tibbers and tibbers slowly DPS's you down. And these changes are intentionally designed to say stop building fucking Rylais. You can build Malignants if you want, but then you should be building damage. [00:18:11] Speaker C: This is a lot like 15% magic pen is a ton. Amy is going to be one of the premier magic Shred champions. She will be able to do more damage through Mr. Than almost any other mage. [00:18:29] Speaker B: If you combine that with the upgraded SORC boots from Getting Feats and then spending the 750 gold and a Void staff. Even though those stack multiplicatively, I still think you're at almost 60% percentage penetration. Which means they only get 4 out of every 10 Mr. They build against Annie. [00:18:51] Speaker A: In that circumstance, maybe when you guys can clarify for me on the Tibber summon, Tibbers new passive. Is that an all time thing or only when Tibbers is all time? [00:19:03] Speaker D: Okay, that was my question too. You get it like immediately on getting. [00:19:09] Speaker C: They clarify that up in the notes around her. [00:19:11] Speaker D: Okay. [00:19:12] Speaker B: Yep. This is similar to Darius and Mordekaiser's polls giving their respective penetration station. [00:19:19] Speaker D: Okay. [00:19:22] Speaker A: Yeah, she's gonna be one shot people. [00:19:24] Speaker C: Mm. [00:19:25] Speaker B: Oh yeah. [00:19:27] Speaker C: The. The other thing they clear they wanted to try and take away some of her power based on Flash. So she will do a lot more damage without Tibbers up and you. You can't dodge the queue. It's one of the last remaining point and click damage in the game. It's got an 80% AP ratio on it. [00:19:48] Speaker A: I mean without getting into the math of it. Like once she hits six, all her abilities are going to basically do 15 more damage. Like without getting into the math of it and digging into it a little deeper. But that's. That's going to be quite a bit because she's already super bursty. And I mean, yeah, I can see this is going to be a really good change. [00:20:11] Speaker C: I. This was something I didn't. I was scrolling past it, looked, saw some antibuffs. Okay. Okay. Went. Went to go look for something else and I came back and I scrolled back up when I saw that bonus magic pen because that. That changes everything. [00:20:30] Speaker A: Pretty nasty. [00:20:31] Speaker B: They did also nerf her health growth slightly to make her a little more vulnerable, make her squishy burstier. But she's easier to burst as well. [00:20:39] Speaker C: Which is good because Amy was one of those champions that built like seven health items and you walk in and go why is this mage at 4000 health? [00:20:50] Speaker B: Which was a symptom of how Tippers worked, so that should be gone. She should be back to actually building. Fuck you. Blow up. [00:21:00] Speaker A: Being flash altered on. I can't wait. [00:21:02] Speaker B: Oh yeah, she's still going to be flash ulting you and blowing you up that way. And she's gonna be just as good as you remember. All right, Codex, how are you gonna avoid getting flash ulted? [00:21:20] Speaker D: Well, because I'm going to do jumping, although I don't actually play Tristana, so. Tristana, in my opinion, has got a significant nerf. Her r. Her buster shot is losing 50 damage at all ranks. And I know that some other people feel that this is just overkill damage, but 50 damage is a lot, especially level six. But yeah. [00:21:55] Speaker B: It'S a. It's a meaningful Nerf. I'm the one who said it wasn't all that big of a deal. Because usually with Tristana, you're using your Ult to disengage or to Tristana insect someone into your team, or you're using it to immediately trigger a fourth shot and just blow someone up before they have a chance to flash away for your bomb. And in both of those cases, the Ult damage is secondary to the other things you're doing anyway. It still does mean there's going to be more instances of going for that swag bomb rocket jump auto auto R combo where you can literally pop the bomb in half a second or less, where they walk away with 30 HP because you just got a 50 damage nerf. And now instead of killing them by 20 health, they now live by 30. [00:22:49] Speaker D: So you can, you can still do it to Squishy Carries, you can't do it to Nautilus is basically where it's at. [00:22:55] Speaker C: I've. I've had enough games where people have survived the buster shot with barely any health before now so many times that 50 damage on this doesn't mean much to me because they were already barely surviving. It just means that the idea of how much damage it's gonna do is a new ratio that you gotta to click in there. Because people would survive with 5, 10 health getting away barely. And you'd be like, I had that kill. And then they walk away and now it's. They're gonna survive those. Which actually is probably better for her overall because it means you're less likely to jump in and die and not get that free kill. So I think even though it's a damage nerf, it is overall probably better for Tristana because you are less likely to do a dumb thing. [00:23:56] Speaker B: Yeah. All right, Mike. Speaking of dumb Things. [00:24:05] Speaker C: Well, if we're talking about dumb things, I have to go scroll down to Syndra there because, hoo boy, Syndra. Syndra's been brutal. And we've seen some beastly Syndras and they've noticed and they've decided they need to tone that shit down with a nice sweep of nerfs and then one adjustment. So her W slow. If you don't actually get a. A ball on it, it does a slow and it's. Instead of being 25 to 45%, it's just 25. That's good. I'm sorry, that's not the slow. That's the ball throw. That's just the 25% slow on it. That's good. Her E is what we actually need to be talking about. They've changed it and they've drastically taken off base damage. 75 to 235 to 60 to 200. Base damage goes way down. But they've added 15% AP ratio on it. And same thing with her R. Reduced damage per sphere. Base damage went down by 10 at all ranks. EP ratio went up by 3%. So you are less likely to get insta comboed from her E, throw the ball from the W and then get an R on you. But you are more likely to see late game Syndras blowing people up. [00:25:48] Speaker B: Yes, that's. That's why I'm hesitant to call this a nerf. It's more of a rebalance to force her to actually have to go first items. If you're doing what you're supposed to do on Syndra and going like Ludens into Shadowflame into Deathcap type builds, you get more damage at two to three items. And then just forevermore, if you were doing like cosmic drive, Rod of Ages type builds, which was sadly, a lot of Syndra builds. That's what this nerf is targeted at. [00:26:24] Speaker C: It makes her a little less safe. It makes her a little more bursty without being too bursty. Because half the time you're not hitting people with scatter. The week's damage you're hitting with a. [00:26:37] Speaker B: Ball, which still does the scatter. [00:26:40] Speaker C: Yeah. Yes. But they're all in on that. But yeah, the force. The force of the will. The. The slo on that being better is. It's just better that that's way down there. Because she did not need long. One of the longest range stuns, plus the slow, plus this you're dead button. [00:27:02] Speaker A: I was gonna say. So you're. What you're saying is I'm still, no matter what going to be saying God damn it, this Syndra. And getting deleted and executed at late games. Because that's all I'm seeing on this 100%. She's still just gonna. They've burst me down. [00:27:17] Speaker C: But they've made it so that there are more people who can be. And that's potent because she is not strong early. She has very good long range catch potential. But if you can get near her or dodge any of her stuff, Syndra goes down quick. [00:27:44] Speaker D: What do you max first and second. [00:27:49] Speaker C: What? [00:27:50] Speaker B: She maxes Q first and W second. [00:27:52] Speaker C: Yes. She has to. So her Q is just automatically. It's what her primary damage source is. And then that's what when she gets her evolved from her passives, you get a second orb. So that's where most of her damage pops off of. You want orbs to be doing things quicker. And W when she gets the evolve does true damage if I'm not mistaken. [00:28:13] Speaker B: Yep. [00:28:14] Speaker C: Which is why you want W evolve second more than anything else. [00:28:22] Speaker B: Okay. Any other thoughts on the Syndra rebalance? Okay, Pillow, I'm throwing it over to you. [00:28:35] Speaker A: I have a less exciting change but I mean I was excited to see it as Shin so I like playing Shin. Shins fun. Last last time he got changed to doing more damage on Towers and it wasn't enough. So they're giving him some more love. So his Q. And that was the drag. That's the drag. It's where you drag their sword through someone and it gives him three empowered autos. The slow is going up by 10% at all ranks. When you're. That's when you're walking away from Shin. You'll. You're going to be slowed if he dragged his sword through you. I think that's good. I think the 35% wasn't enough. I'm glad to see the 45%. It was too easy to get away from, you know, Shin when he did it. And it's not easy to place your sword. So there's a little more reward now to actually hitting that ability. The big change to me comes in the W cooldown change. It was. It's starting at 18 seconds or was 18, scaling down to 12 and now it's 16 seconds scaling down to a 10 second cooldown. That's massive. Like I mean we're talking, you know, in a game where a quarter of a second makes a difference, we're taking two seconds off of a cooldown. That's huge. [00:29:57] Speaker B: Not just that, but that's an ability that already Has a like two second duration. [00:30:04] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:30:05] Speaker B: So it went from being up a sixth of his total uptime to a fifth. [00:30:13] Speaker A: Now I don't play him a whole lot, but I also think there's like an interaction where you cast your W then drag it on you and then it starts the duration. Like it doesn't immediately start it when he puts it down. If I remember like I think it starts. It might refresh times out. Yeah. I don't know. I'd have to look into it a little more. But I mean when he gets a little bit of, you know, ability haste, he's gonna. His W is gonna be up every six seconds I'd say. [00:30:45] Speaker B: Yup. [00:30:47] Speaker A: And it's a pretty fun little change for shit. I'm. I wouldn't be surprised to see him being played a little bit more. [00:30:56] Speaker D: Yep. [00:30:57] Speaker A: He was already really strong. [00:30:58] Speaker B: You know, now that I'm scared change. [00:31:02] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. I'm. He's already a nightmare for like an auto based champions, you know. So Renekton, Darius, not so much but any of those champions like any great for team fighting. Yeah, I mean it's great for team fighting. Your. Your ADC can stand in there and be safe from autos. It's, it's, it's a good, a good ability. I'm excited to see a change on it. He doesn't get a lot of love and I'm glad to be seeing him getting some love lately. [00:31:38] Speaker B: All right, speaking of getting some love, now that she's not permabanned, Mel got a minor buff because she's actually kinda weak right now. They buffed her base health by 30, which is nice. And they buffed her passive's damage per stack by three at level one, scaling up to five by the time you're at level 18. Obviously the level 18 part is whatever, but three damage at level one, that's meaningful because that is per stack. Her Q at rank one applies six hits. That means you have the threshold to kill someone because that's what her passive's damage is. If the damage of the passive exceeds their current health pool plus shields, they die. That's 18 extra threshold if you hit a Q on someone. If you hit an E on someone, it adds 812 stacks. That adds up fast. She's gonna have way more just someone was an idiot and fought her too long and died. Level one or two kind of kills now. I'm happy about it because I enjoy playing Mel. She is fun as fuck. [00:32:58] Speaker C: This scream. [00:32:59] Speaker A: Play a game with her. [00:33:00] Speaker C: Yeah, this screams top lane Mel to Me? [00:33:02] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:33:04] Speaker C: Because Top Mel already did surprisingly well into a lot of the bruisers on Top lane, which was kind of weird. And they are the people who are usually brawling with you forever. So the stack rate that you're gonna get on these, you're gonna get 30, 40 stacks on someone that's gonna be massive. Plus the extra little health bonus up there. [00:33:33] Speaker D: I as the resident adk, am super, super worried that I'm gonna see her in support. So like, I don't want to see. [00:33:43] Speaker B: She still shouldn't be played in support. But you must support. [00:33:47] Speaker C: She might be played as the Carry. [00:33:49] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. [00:33:50] Speaker D: No, she agrees. [00:33:50] Speaker B: You might actually see her as the Carrybot. She's already good in that role. Especially if she's against Samira. It is so fucking funny to just ruin a Samira's life. [00:34:02] Speaker C: That was the funniest thing I've ever seen. [00:34:08] Speaker B: For listeners who haven't experienced it, if Samira ults and Mel is inside of the ult, Mel can just hit W and apply a stack of her passive for each. Each target Samira has inside the alt and just blow Samira up with passive stacks. Like immediately. It's so fun. [00:34:27] Speaker C: The passive is less. She just kills herself. Cuz she reflects all the damage back to her. Cuz because Mel is inside of it. They're auto targeting Mel, which means it's automatically going right back into Syndra. She just. Or not Syndra. [00:34:42] Speaker B: Samira. [00:34:43] Speaker C: Samira. And she just instantly kills herself. It's the funniest thing I've ever seen. [00:34:48] Speaker B: It's great. Play Melon to Samira, please. And while we're at it, one of Samira's potential peak partners has been nerfed. This patch Codex. You want to talk about Lulu? [00:35:06] Speaker D: Yeah. So we're on the third nerf to Lulu. Like the third Nerf. Like we're getting into, you know, the Monty Python. Like, you know, the first castle I built and then it sunk into the swamp here. So Lulu. Lulu is losing 40. 40. No, 30. 30 health on her base health. I don't think that that's meaningful enough to actually. [00:35:36] Speaker C: Although. [00:35:37] Speaker D: Although I will say the one thing that's really nice about this one in particular. It means that her level one to three will actually get meaningfully nerfed. I don't think this is actually going to affect her win rate in a serious way. But it. It does feel bad, man. When you're. You're going up against a Samira Lulu. And lulu is just solo 1v2 ing you just with her and pix just hamming out with that Q. So, like, maybe. But I. I don't know that the bastion of Lulu is. Is forever. As far as I'm concerned. [00:36:17] Speaker C: 30 base health is a massive stat to lose, which is why I was talking about Mels over there before that. That. That's a ton of health. And as a squishy champion, which she should be. [00:36:30] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:36:31] Speaker C: Going down to. She's. That's a fairly low base health number. [00:36:37] Speaker D: Yeah. I'm actually kind of curious where Sona is now. [00:36:40] Speaker C: I think Sona's still a little lower. [00:36:42] Speaker D: Yeah. Because like Sona, it's the Sona test. Like in top lane, they got the Renekton test. In bot Lane, they have the Sona test. Are you as easy to pop as the soda balloon? [00:36:58] Speaker B: All right, well, speaking of popping, Mike, one of your favorite champions is going to be popping people a lot better. [00:37:08] Speaker C: Yes. And this is also one of those ways that I say is a fantastic way to buff a champion. So I've chosen. This is a. A thing of. These are ways to change champions in very healthy manners. And it's hwei. We'll start with the. The easy one, which is Hussar. They gave him better damage on his second and third ranks. 25 and 50 base damage. Great. The alts base damage does AoE damage. You don't need to give him more AP ratio on this. A little base buff to it. Good idea. And then hwei does a lot of extra damage by weaving spells to hit together. And so that's how his passive functions. And it gives you an extra little burst of damage. And so when you buff the little burst of damage, you are giving hwei that people that play hwei well, better damage, as opposed to just letting people throw a Q at you and do a lot more damage. And so buffing the base damage on his passive is a really great way to buff hwei. For people who play hwei, this essentially. [00:38:26] Speaker B: Means anytime you land one of his E versions on someone, you should proc his passive and get more damage than you did before. So it's essentially a damage buff to his E or skillful other combos. [00:38:37] Speaker C: Yes. [00:38:40] Speaker B: But his E was like the reliable way to always proc his passive. [00:38:45] Speaker C: And it's. It's a very large base damage nerf because it's. It's a scaling based on level. So it's. It's going on five at. At base level and scales up to 50 by the end, which. That's a lot of damage every two spells. [00:39:02] Speaker B: Yep. [00:39:05] Speaker C: And remember, pretty much everything hoi does is aoe. [00:39:10] Speaker B: Yeah, this is AOE too. I have definitely seen someone hit like a claw pulling people together and then hit both of those people with one of the Q spells and just double proc. The passive explosions and just kill them both. [00:39:26] Speaker C: So, like, this is. This is very potent. [00:39:35] Speaker B: God. Now I just want to see like one of those highlight plays of just everyone getting clumped up by like an Orianna ult into a h just aoe combo of five passive procs all hitting five people and just insta kill an entire team. [00:39:50] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. [00:39:55] Speaker B: All right, Pillow, you have a champion you actually enjoy as your last one here. What's. What's changing with Renekton? It's. [00:40:04] Speaker A: It's not a whole lot, but I can't leave my boy out when I see him up on the patch list, so I'm gonna talk about him. Renekton got a change to his R damage, the per second damage. And it went. It's going from. It went from 30 to 90 to 30 to 120. They're just focusing on his late game, our damage, just to try to keep him in the game a little bit. Because Renekton does tend to fall off in late game. I don't really see that changing with this. But 120 damage a second with an adnap ratio, it's going to make it to where he can. He can kind of fight a little bit longer or stand up to more like tanky or more other bruisers. How long does Domino think it's gonna do? What is it? [00:40:54] Speaker C: How long does Dominus last? [00:40:57] Speaker A: I don't. [00:40:59] Speaker B: 12 seconds? [00:41:00] Speaker A: It's. Yeah, it's. [00:41:01] Speaker C: That's a huge amount of damage. [00:41:04] Speaker B: Then I'm looking it up. [00:41:08] Speaker C: Like, if it's anything over like 5 or 615 seconds. [00:41:14] Speaker A: So yeah, if you're looking at it at that range, if they're sitting there and fighting you the entire 15 seconds, it's. I don't understand what's going on there or who's fighting who, because nobody should be fighting or necked in for 15 seconds. So that's like an extra 450 team fight. In a team fight, yeah, it's going to be pretty noticeable. But if you're just a 1v1, you're never going to get a full value of a 15 seconds. Renekton's all is always been used for two things to animation, cancel a W, stun animation, and to get fury. His R damage itself for the second has never been like the reason to use it. I don't See that changing with this. I think it's going to keep its identity of being a animation cancel on his w stun and empowered. Stunning and just getting the fury. [00:42:14] Speaker C: This is a huge amount of team fight presence though. Like that's 450 damage over that course by the. By the end, just raw base damage. That's a lot of extra damage. That's. That's an insane amount of damage. [00:42:33] Speaker A: I want to say it ticks as ad I think. Yeah. So any armor, all that, you know. Of course. Yeah. [00:42:41] Speaker C: But we're talking about some, some base damages. Going up by 50, down by 50. This is a grand total of 450 damage throughout that. That thing's number. That's pure AoE as well. That's a ton of damage. Now this may mean that he's nowhere near as good at tanking as some of the top laners. But like his presence in a team fight will be felt. [00:43:14] Speaker A: Yeah, he'll get in, jump on that adc empower W Q, dash out, do the same trade patterns and then just sit there and soak damage for a while. [00:43:26] Speaker B: But now he'll do a little more damage while he does that. [00:43:31] Speaker A: We'll see how it does for him. I would like to see other changes but he's already strong. I'm just greedy. I want to see him stronger. [00:43:37] Speaker C: I think that's super smart. Like make. Make him the damage tank. Have this person be the one you want to do damage in that tank line. Throw in Renekton. Don't make him tank here. Make him more damaging. This is a great way of doing that. That's scary. [00:43:57] Speaker B: Alright, I want to talk about a couple items real quick because there are several item changes in this patch that are actually interesting. Cryptbloom, that penetration item that literally no one should be buying, got five ability haste more than it had before. Should you be buying it over Void staff? Probably not most of the time. But at 20 ability haste it's now a lot more appealing. If you're just like they're kind of tanky. I'd like some penetration, but I need haste. It's now an actual choice. Whereas before the item was so weak, you were better off getting some haste elsewhere and getting a Void staff. It can now be a one stop shop compromise item. [00:44:43] Speaker A: I don't ever see that being built like not just from this. I'm just saying in general in games, I never see it. There's just way too much, too many better items. I see it to fill that slot. [00:44:55] Speaker C: I see it in Arams a Ton. And I see it in Pro A Ton, which are the two places where it should be. [00:45:03] Speaker B: It's. It's less personal damage than Void Staff pretty much always. And it has less team synergy than the other one that I can't remember the name of. [00:45:14] Speaker C: It builds out of a. Oh, the shred ones. [00:45:17] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:45:17] Speaker B: Yes. [00:45:18] Speaker A: It's always felt like a support item to me. Like, that's just always what it's felt like. And they need to give it, you know, a clear. [00:45:26] Speaker C: I didn't know, you know, who this is good with. It's good with people like Orianna who are already supportive mages. [00:45:34] Speaker B: Yeah, I could see that. Or like, if you're playing a damage. Karma. [00:45:38] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:45:41] Speaker B: All right. They also changed Deadman's plate. It has 15% slow resist instead of 25%. Personally, I don't understand why this stat exists on Dead Man's Plate. It just serves to make Tanks much more frustrating to Kite and the few bruisers that could build it, like sett, for example, much more frustrating to Kite. This is already a stat on Swifties. We don't need it on Dead Man's Plate as well. But I got Nerfed. It's less. It's just still there. Opportunity got more lethality for melee users. This is the one that when you start fighting with someone, you get a whole bunch of lethality and then it falls off after three seconds or whatever. It's not really changed much for ranged users. They nerfed the ranged value to balance out the base lethality buff on it. But Zeds, Talons, Khazix, Blue Canes should all be happy about Opportunity. It was already a good item for them, and now it's better for them. And they're buffing the ad conversion on Overlord's bloodmail, which is already very much a win. More item on everyone who builds it. I hate this one. [00:46:59] Speaker C: This one hurts. Like, I like using it. I like playing with it. But having just played against Sion, who built one lethality item, some health, and an Overlord's bloodmail. That's terrifying. [00:47:22] Speaker B: Yup. All right, Pillow, you have a couple honorable mentions. Quick hits. [00:47:28] Speaker C: What? [00:47:29] Speaker B: What are your honorable mentions? [00:47:30] Speaker A: Quick hits. Brand got a buff in the jungle. He's now doing 240 damage to monsters with his Blaze Passive. And York just got, I think, kicked out of the jungle for good. I mean, I could be wrong. Someone might come up with something. But now his ghouls take 100 damage from monsters. The E no longer does a base damage. It only does 8% up to. I'm sorry, 6 to 8% of your target's max HP, plus 3% per 100 AP. There is a now monster damage cap from 50 to 150 with an AP ratio of 100% and your new lane minion minimum damage. So your minimum damage is 70 to 210 with 100% AP ratio. [00:48:15] Speaker C: It's his old base damage. [00:48:17] Speaker A: Yeah. So his R. The big change. His R will no longer mark jungle camps only champions. So I think he's out of the jungle. [00:48:31] Speaker C: There's some pretty hefty nerves. [00:48:34] Speaker B: We're all happy about him being out. [00:48:36] Speaker D: Of the jungle because I really thought they wanted Yorick in the jungle. I thought all these changes for. For Yorick in the jungle, and now we're just like, nah, fam. We don't want that guy in the jungle no more. [00:48:49] Speaker C: So sometimes you use something and then you see how it plays out, and then you go, oh, no. This is very unhealthy. Like Rell. Rell jungle. That was around for a couple years, and they realized you can't have Rell jungle and Rell as a support because it's unbalanceable. [00:49:08] Speaker B: Or Teemo got nerfed in the jungle because he was oppressive. And everywhere in the jungle, same thing. [00:49:14] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:49:15] Speaker D: All I know is that by. By. By nerfing him in the jungle, out of the jungle has brought him to being an adc. I just got my ass handed to me by an adc Yorick. It sucked, man. [00:49:28] Speaker B: That sounds miserable. [00:49:30] Speaker C: They need to absolutely change something about how his minions function because it's disgusting. [00:49:36] Speaker B: He's the same problem Illaoi has. He's super binary. He lands the skill shot, he auto wins. He doesn't land the skill shot, he auto loses. [00:49:47] Speaker A: I will say I went against my first York the other day. Since all these changes with him, even the last patch to this patch, I went against him as Gragas. It felt better as an AOE focused mage going against his ghouls than it did happen to find an Auto every single ghoul to kill him. I was able to kill them with a W and a Q with the splash damage from both of those. And that felt okay. So I like that they take increased damage from AoE. But I did get frustrated probably like 4 level 4 or 5 because I could no longer one shot them with an auto. [00:50:30] Speaker D: Yep. [00:50:31] Speaker A: And that felt really bad. [00:50:34] Speaker D: Yep. [00:50:35] Speaker A: I do not like that. [00:50:36] Speaker D: Is that is why being an adc, when I saw that I don't get to one shot the ghouls anymore. And I knew that this. So. So my biggest fear about the whole Yorick arc was that as an adc, like, are. [00:50:50] Speaker A: Are. [00:50:50] Speaker D: Is Yorick just gonna have one shot etap me, and then I die. Because, like, if I can't kill them in a single auto attack, it doesn't matter if I'm a fed ad carry. And that E is not a small skill ability. My folks. Like, it's a decently sized E ability. He is not super dodgeable. And so I did feel that. It sucks when. When. When he lands a Z, but he does not shred my health bar. Like. Like, I. I am not etapped. I'm now at. At 40% health instantaneously. [00:51:27] Speaker C: So did you still get shredded once the minions jumped on you? Because that was always the biggest problem with him. He built lethality. The minions hopped on you, and I went from, oh, no, I took some damage to where is my health? [00:51:43] Speaker D: So. So it took a lot longer to kill them because again, they aren't being auto auto killed. But I was going from like 90% to 60% rather than from 90% to like 25% with a single tap. And we're talking about, like, fed full lethality old school meme build. [00:52:09] Speaker B: Yikes. [00:52:11] Speaker C: Okay. [00:52:13] Speaker D: And again, I don't have a ton of data. Like, I'm going based on like, two, three games somewhere in there. I did not feel that he was oppressive, which is. I'm sorry. Like, there needs to be some counter play. Just because I'm an Auto Attack champion player. Like, I deserve the game too, guys. [00:52:34] Speaker B: Hey, we all agree. [00:52:36] Speaker D: I don't know. Right? Disagrees with me. They want to retire my people to all be mages bot. [00:52:44] Speaker C: I don't know. It feels like only 80 carries can kill them. Because I've. I've checked some majors late in the game. And you're like, oh, no. [00:52:55] Speaker D: I personally don't feel the ghouls do very much damage anymore, but they. But they are harder to kill. It takes a lot longer to kill them. [00:53:04] Speaker B: All right, that's enough about Yorick. That was supposed to be a quick honorable moment. Sorry is fine. So, Codex, as the inaugural episode. You're on. You get to give the trinket tip this week. [00:53:17] Speaker D: Yeah, the trinket tip. So. So I was thinking through my trinket tips, and I had a situation where I. So I've been playing. I have been previously playing a lot of Twitch. A lot of Twitch. I'm. Right now I'm playing Kaisa, But. So one thing I found out was that we were cheese bushing. I had I think a pantheon. It was me and pantheon as Twitch and we cheesed someone. And I actually auto attacked first. And when I went through the replay, because I was watching from their perspective as to what happened, because that's a really important thing. Vision is super important as Twitch. I noticed that it revealed both of us when I auto attacked. And don't get me wrong, this kind of makes sense. I'm not saying that like, but I just suddenly realized that auto attacking actually reveals vision around you. Like a decent melee, like hundred units around you. It's. It's not just your champion model. So yeah, we went into, we went into and tested this out. Like it's basically the size of any like, like in bot lane, all of those bushes. If you attack, you're gonna reveal your friend for the most part. But if you are in mid lane bush, like, like the length of it, just draw a little like, like thresh auto attack range around you. That is actually what's being revealed. You can be halfway in the middle of mid lane bush and you, you will not see your. Your, your. You will not reveal your ally who's like hugging the wall. So there's some weird vision stuff that goes on that I had no idea until we, we got into testing in the pre show, which you should totally do by subscribing for a dollar. Best dollar you ever spent. [00:55:18] Speaker C: Show. [00:55:20] Speaker B: Yes. Show. Show. More. No, the pre show is at the $5 tier. But yes, we did. You can listen to us test this and figure out exactly how it works so we can make sure we're giving you guys correct information on the show. If you subscribe to the Patreon and listen to the pre show. All right, that brings us to listener questions. And the last listener question Codex provided when she was not yet a host on this show is our only listener question. So today sent to us the day we recorded last week, Codex writes, what is your Ultimate League story? And I'm gonna let you explain what that means and then we'll all answer it. [00:56:03] Speaker D: Yeah, so. So my Ultimate League story was back in like 2013ish. Like Jinx is new, she's out, and Braum has just come out. And we were playing Jinx and Braum and I think we had a Malzahar mid. And you know those afks when you win a 4v5? Oh man. There is no greater high, my friends. But I subscribe and I would like to tell you a story of how I won a 3v5. So our jungler and our top laner just AFK. For whatever reason, they just got pissed Mad Internet disconnected. I have no idea. They are not part of this story. But Jinx me as Jinx and Braum were just. We're just popping off. We were just going insane. And Malzahar was just like, guys, I think we should just give up. Like, there's only three of us. They're both gone. We just begged him in chat, please, Malzahar, please stay. Because we had lost it into him and we just needed him to farm the minions away. And we just started like acing them. We aced them like twice. Once at Dragon, then once in mid, and we pushed all the way down to mid and we won a 3. 5. And I'm telling you, that's why Reset Champions are broken. Reset champions are broken in this game. [00:57:32] Speaker C: And that's before her Buff. [00:57:34] Speaker D: Yeah, it was good times. And I will remember that story for all eternity. [00:57:41] Speaker B: So Ultimate League Story is the story that stuck with you after years and years and years as the game has changed. You still remember this game? [00:57:51] Speaker C: I have two. [00:57:52] Speaker B: All right, well, then I'll let you go. You only get one also. Yeah, it's ultimate. [00:57:58] Speaker A: Ultimate. [00:57:59] Speaker D: Ultimate. [00:58:01] Speaker B: All right, let me tell you this then, while you decide which one to go with. [00:58:06] Speaker C: I know which one. [00:58:07] Speaker B: Believe it or not, I have a 100% win rate in ranked. As long as you count Flex as ranked on Jack's support. I was playing a Flex game because I was done with the season on solo duo, but I still wanted to play ranked. So I was like, cool, I'll just try to reach same goal on Flex. And I get into this Flex game and in Flex, you can see people's names. This was, I want to say, like four years ago. It wasn't super long ago. And I get this trio and then a random along with me and I'm put in support. I get auto filled. When I'm auto filled and ranked, there is exactly one support that I play. It's Morgana. And this trio clearly had looked me up because they proceeded to ban Morgana and then tell me to expand my horizons in Champion Select. So I picked Lux because Lux is basically the same idea. You throw the root, you blow the people up with offensive spells, you shield your allies. Is she the same champion? No. Am I as good at her from the support role? No. But I was like, I'm just gonna make it work. I don't care. I just wanna play the game. And then to troll me because they were mad that I had picked a champion so similar to Morgana. When they wanted me to expand my horizons. Their top laner who had picked Zach sent me a trade because he thought it was funny. So I traded him my Lux for his jacks. Then he tried to trade back and I had had enough of these people at this point. I was hoping I could just force a dodge. I didn't accept the trade back. I said no, I'll play jacks. I'm happy with that. I play a lot of jacks. They didn't dodge. We go into the game. The person who's not in their trio plays Katarina. I'm playing jack support. I proceed to 1v2 hard smash bot lane while the Katarina gets Giga Fed like 12 kills in 8 minutes. Giga Fed and me and Katarina just fucking run down and end the game in like 25 minutes or less. The trio did not matter. They were just along for the ride. Me and this random who was not part of their group hard fucking carried these undeserving assholes to a victory. And I have never played Jak's support since. [01:00:58] Speaker C: Alright, I have picked the more epic of the two games because it was an 85 minute banger. Oh geez. Wow. This is an old one. This is an 85 minute game and I was playing Old Vigor. Old Vigor, the anti mage whose ult used to deal increased damage based on your AP and his. So it was a. I was facing Echo mid. They had like Tryndamere top. Things were back and forth. We were both completely out of turrets. We're just sitting there farming back and forth. It's about 80 minutes into the game. We're at the end of the line and Echo is. If Echo gets on top of you, you die. Except he seemed to have forgotten the one thing in that. I only need to press one button because Old Vigor was I hit R. You're dead. And I had about 2,000. I had about 2,000 AP. [01:02:09] Speaker B: That's a literal one shot with a single spell on someone who's built all ap. [01:02:13] Speaker C: It proceeded to do four and a half thousand damage and kill the Echo before he realized he could take damage and had to live. And so we proceeded to do that. And then I got chased by Tryndamere down and away. And so I'm running down and leaving because it's not great. Then he doesn't have all the movement speed bonuses. He's not playing smart. And I pop a cage down, pop a W. It does half his health in one shot. He's instantly not jumping on top of me anymore. He's being more cautious. Get another cage up. Get another one. He has to ult well now he's gotta try and come on top of me. 1Q dead. This is. This is old Vigor. It's beautiful. We won an 85 minute banger with vigor when they tried to Absolutely fuck it. Oh, it's such a good game. [01:03:10] Speaker B: I'm not gonna lie. You said 85 minute game and I thought you were just gonna say complexity versus curse was like the greatest game you've ever seen. [01:03:19] Speaker C: Oh, no, no, no. This was. This was. This was me. This was. It was also like we only had 45 minutes to play the game, but fuck it. So this is at like 1:00am Now. [01:03:29] Speaker D: Oh yeah, it's now 1:00am Decisions were made. [01:03:33] Speaker C: The game cannot be stopped. We're winning this fucking game. And by the end of it, I could. I could not sleep anymore because it was too hype. So I had to do another game. [01:03:47] Speaker A: I unfortunately don't have an ultimate story that I can even think of to tell. The only, the only game that ever sticks in my mind. And I could not tell you how it went because this is a game way back when in Twisted Treeline. And I just remember playing this game with my buddy. I. I was Teemo, he was Nasus. We both ended up with like 30 some kills with both of us. And it was a comeback game. Like it was a game that went on forever. And I just in a twist, Twisted cannot say it. Twisted Treeline. This game probably went on for like 60, 70 minutes and that's a long time in a 3v3. And it's just Facebook has memories of like posts that you make. Remember we put this picture on Facebook back when it happened. I could tell you the day that we did this game. Like I was in a hotel room on my laptop. Like I remember the game and when it does, I just don't remember how it went. And we posted on Facebook, shared it with our friend group that played League. It was. It was just a good time, good memory. So once a year that picture comes back up and we get to reminisce about it and look at the ridiculous icons that were then, what, 10 years ago? 11 years ago? [01:05:14] Speaker B: Fair enough. All right, I remembered. I have a screenshot of one of the funniest things I've ever seen that I want to share. I had a game I played as Teemo. This must have been well over 10 years ago. [01:05:31] Speaker C: Oh, that's the old. [01:05:32] Speaker B: Where I was sitting in a bush this was before Summoner's Rift got reworked. I was sitting in a bush and a enemy player on Jax proceeded to stand on top of me in the bush and try to taunt me in all chat. So I killed him. And he proceeded to then hit enter after I killed him because he had said, hey, Teemo, how do my nuts twaqu because he was trying to cast his abilities and couldn't because he had the chat open. [01:06:08] Speaker A: That's great. [01:06:10] Speaker B: I don't remember anything else about this game, but that moment was so fucking funny. [01:06:15] Speaker C: That's. That's pretty crazy. [01:06:22] Speaker B: Yep. He was just trying to jump on me and cast his W to hit me and he couldn't. [01:06:28] Speaker A: Is that Maokai icon? [01:06:30] Speaker C: That's the old Maokai. Yep, Maokai. Really old. Twitch. [01:06:36] Speaker D: This is giving me new. [01:06:37] Speaker B: Yeah, like, vibes. [01:06:39] Speaker D: Like I said, this Mordbot. [01:06:41] Speaker B: God. The rework of the Rift was in like 2014, so this must have been from 2013 or earlier. [01:06:46] Speaker C: It was because there's a Kassadin in mid lane. And when was the last time you see Kassady? [01:06:51] Speaker D: I thought he was banned. He had a 97% ban rate for a bit. [01:06:57] Speaker B: He did all right. I don't think we have elution top listeners. Send in questions.
